AVIAN INFLUENZA

The Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) reports that H5N1 avian influenza (bird flu) “is widespread in wild birds worldwide and is causing outbreaks in poultry and US dairy cows with one recent human case in a US dairy worker.” Migratory waterfowl promote transmission of avian influenza (AI). Spring’s moist, cool days provide an ideal environment for AI to spread through puddles and ponds.

USDA MICROLOANS HELP FARMERS PURCHASE FARMLAND AND IMPROVE PROPERTY

Farmers can use USDA farm ownership microloans to buy and improve property. These microloans are especially helpful to beginning or underserved farmers, U.S. veterans looking for a career in farming, and those who have small and mid-sized farming operations. Microloans have helped farmers and ranchers with operating costs, such as feed, fertilizer, tools, fencing, equipment, and living expenses since 2013.

APRIL IS VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION MONTH

The definition of volunteer is the act of an individual to freely give of time and or labor for community service. Volunteers may be trained in areas of work needed by a cause or company.

Outdoor Tips for Warmer Weather As we approach the last month of school, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my first year as the Health Services Coordinator at MCC. This year has been like many others I have spent in the health office in some ways, and quite the change in other ways. I have really enjoyed getting to fill this role and I appreciate the support of my fellow staff, our administration, school board and most of all this wonderful community. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family’s health this past school year and I look forward to next year!

BOYS GOLF TEAM COMPETES IN MARSHALL INVITATIONAL

The MCC Boys Golf team had a beautiful day to golf at the Marshall Golf Course besides the wind. After a few meets with cold and windy conditions, the players were itching to get outside and play a round in some nicer weather. The Rebels faced quite a few challenging opponents, but finished strong overall.

REBELS TRAVEL TO FULDA FOR TRIANGULAR

The Rebels traveled to Fulda on Thursday last week to play in a triangular against the HLO/F/ WWG Coyotes and SWMCHEHS Eagles. Although it was a very windy and cold day, the course was in great condition for this time of year.
