SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES RESOLUTIONS

SLAYTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES RESOLUTIONS FOR FUNDING ON MAPLE AVENUE PROJECT WHICH IS PROJECTED TO START BY END OF APRIL

The Slayton City Council met on Friday, April 15th. The agenda was approved. The minutes from the April 1st meeting were reviewed and approved, as were the claims for the month.

City Administrator Josh Malchow advised the Council about the public hearing at 7pm on April 18th regarding the Burmeister Solar Public Hearing. Council members Blake Heronimus and Chris Jacobson will be attending the hearing. Malchow reported that a good discussion was had between the city, Xcel and Nobles and it was discovered that the Burmeister project is entirely outside of the Xcel territory. This information was passed along to Jean Christoffels. Malchow also reported that the Board of Equalization meeting will be held April 24th at 7pm. A reminder for the May 1st community meeting regarding the electrical utility possible change. The vote to Slayton residents will be May 14th.

Moving on to unfinished business was the resolution approving the annexation agreement with Slayton Township for Trevor Holm’s Property on the northwest edge of town. The City Council also approved this request as it does not require a public hearing.

The first items of new business were regarding resolutions for the Maple Avenue Street project. The bonds will be 10-year bonds and assessed back to the landowners on the project with that same 10 year time frame. The estimated bond amount is $555,000 in General Obligation Improvement Bonds, Series 2024A. These bonds will go for sale on May 20th. The Council approved the resolutions authorizing Ehlers & Associates to move forward in the process. The pre-construction meeting will be held at City Hall on Thursday April 18th. The project is estimated to start in the next couple weeks.

The last item of new business was the City of Slayton Personnel Policy to update the language to match what our current contracts with LELS and AFSCME are.

With no other business the meeting was adjourned. The next City Council meeting will be Monday, May 6th.
