Ask A Trooper

Question: I junked two vehicles about 30 days ago and have only received one “Junk Certificate” in the mail. I contacted the DVS with the VIN # in question and they have no record of the vehicle being junked and told me to contact the repair shop. I contacted the repair shop that I mailed the signed title to and they said they have taken care of it. I do not want to get into a sort of legal trouble with this and am wondering what other actions if any I should take to ensure the vehicle was actually scrapped or if once I signed and mailed the title to them I have no more legal responsibility for the vehicle.

The Truly Rich

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21 NIV

GREEN THUMB

Our gardening continues. The produce is getting ready. And the corn is now tasseling out. We should be getting ears of corn to cook and eat soon. And other garden produce too.

Time to check Farmers Market too. Thursday mornings in Slayton. Back to our own gardens the hoeing needs doing. Thanks for the rain even if little. And the lawn needs mowing too, of course.

At least the planting is done. Now to wait while things grow until its time to start the harvesting. And harvesting in years past meant canning and freezing our produce to use then winter comes.

GET THE DIRT

If your lawn goes dormant due to heat and lack of rain, you may choose to let it go brown. Leave it dormant until the rains begin. Do not fertilize or use herbicides on dormant lawns. Also, minimize foot traffic.

The term pH is a measure of how acidic or basic your soil is. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Anything less than 7 is considered acidic. Most plants like a pH of 6-7. You can adjust the pH by using amendments.

Look for areas to add a few more annuals. A few new annuals can freshen up the summer garden and cover up any losses.

YOUTH AND UV SAFETY MONTH

July is Ultraviolet Ray Safety month. We all love summertime sunshine- going to the pool and all the summer activities. However, it is important to protect yourself from the sun’s ultraviolet rays (UV rays), which can cause damage to your skin if left unprotected. Children are especially vulnerable to these dangerous rays when they spend a large amount of time in the sun without proper protection.
