Patrick Wilfred Dorn died on April 5, 2024 in Walnut Creek, California after a long illness. Pat was born on January 13, 1949 in Adrian, Minnesota as the first of five children of Wilfred Anton Dorn and Rita Mae (Shirley) Dorn. He lived on the Adrian family farm until his family moved to Slayton, Minnesota in the 1950s.

Pat lived his formative years in Slayton where he worked the family farm. He was a 1967 graduate of Slayton High School where he excelled in academics and athletics. He was recruited to play college football by the University of Colorado and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Pat chose to attend St. John’s where he was coached by the legendary Coach John Gagliardi with whom he maintained a close relationship.

Upon graduation in 1971, Pat moved to the San Franciso Bay area where he met the love of his life, Jill Ellen Marinan. Pat and Jill were married on July 7, 1973 in Fresno, California where Pat was assigned as a Postal Inspector for the United States Postal Service. Their children, Killeen and Ryan, were born years later. In 1980, the family moved to Pleasant Hill, California where Pat continued his 35-year career as the Head Investigator in his Oakland-based Division of the United States Postal Service from which he retired in 2006.

Killeen and Ryan cherish their Dad for so many wonderful memories including summers at Lake Tahoe and the numerous seasons when their Dad coached their youth sports. They both valued his positive encouragement in sports and throughout the challenges of life. They will greatly miss their father who they admired for his big heart, integrity, honesty and respect.

Pat is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Jill Dorn, son Ryan, of Pleasant Hill, California, daughter Killeen Sattes (Jerimiah), and three granddaughters, Layla, Elinore, and Anneliese, all of Crockett, California. He is also survived by his brother Tim Dorn (Donna), sister Sheri Biro (Gene), brother Tom Dorn, sister-in-law Fran Dorn, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Rita Dorn, as well as his brother, Mike Dorn.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, April 19, at 11:00 am at Christ the King Church, 199 Brandon Road, Pleasant Hill, California 94523. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Pat’s name to the Boston University Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) Center at www.bu.edu/ cte or St. John’s University at www.csbsju.edu.
