The MCC Rebel Softball team has been lucky so far this season to play a majority of their schedule. On Thursday the Rebels played a team that has had no luck at all. The Rebels hosted the Coyotes of Heron Lake Okabena Fulda who had played just one game all year compared to the Rebels 5. The Rebels have fallen behind in almost every game they have played this season but that did not happen on Thursday, as the Rebels took control early and never looked back.

The Rebel’s offense started quickly when Ava Deacon singled to start the first inning. The Rebels would then draw four walks and get hit by a pitch in five of the next six at-bats. Calleigh Doeden singled to drive in two runs and the Rebels took the lead 5-0. The Rebels continued to score runs in the second inning, the big hit coming on a Doeden inside-the-park grand slam. The Rebels led 11 to 0 after two innings. The Rebels scored two more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth for 17 runs.

Thea Schneider was in the circle for the Rebels and the junior was locked in early in the game, retiring the first six batters for the Coyotes. HLOF did get a single to lead off the third inning which was followed by a walk. Schneider got a strikeout for the first out of the inning before the Rebels committed back-to-back errors to allow two runs to score. Schneider finished off the third inning and wouldn’t allow a run in the fourth, as the Rebels got the win in four innings 17 to 2.

Schneider earned the win for the Rebels, who are now 5 and 1 on the season. Schneider struck out four and walked one while allowing two hits and two unearned runs. Calleigh Doeden had another big day at the plate, with two hits in two at-bats, getting a home run and 6 RBIs. Hailey Peschges had a pair of hits and 2 RBIs for the Rebels, as once again the bottom of the Rebel order hit well. The Rebels game scheduled for Saturday was postponed until May 6th due to cold temperatures.
