The Rebels competed in their first of four varsity conference meets this past Thursday. The boys stayed in Slayton, while the girls traveled to Sanborn. The wind was brutal at both courses. All the golfers had to factor the wind into every shot they took.
In Slayton, the boys got off to a rough start in conference play. The team shot a total of 452 putting them in last place. Lucas Kuball led MCC with a 93. Kuball carded 3 pars and finished tied for 8th place individually. The boys identified that they need to relax and not let a bad shot carry over to the next. For the girls, MCC fought for every stroke. In the end the Rebels came out on top, leading the conference with a team total of 392. MCC is just one stroke ahead of the competition going into the next 18-hole meet. Rachael Huso came in with a strong score for the Rebels finishing tied for 1st place individually. Huso posted a 91 for the day, with four pars on her back nine. Ava Johnson and Lizzie Daniels also had solid rounds for the Rebels. Johnson carded a 96 finishing in 3rd place, and Daniels scored a 99 finishing in 4th place.
MCC will compete in three more 18-hole conference meets this season. Golfers will take their two best scores from the first three meets, while the final conference meet scores must be taken. Their three day total will determine medalists and All-Conference honors. For teams, all four scores are taken for the team total which determines the All-Conference Champion.
