MCC vs. Adrian Ellsworth Thursday, April 11

The MCC Rebel Baseball team has struggled to get on the field this season due to weather and field conditions. The Rebels had their game Tuesday moved to this coming Tuesday which means they played just one game this past week. The Rebels traveled to Adrian to take on the Dragons of Adrian Ellsworth. The Rebels and the Dragons have played some big games over the years, but on Thursday both teams were one and one on the season.

The Rebels sent Krew Schneider to the mound in Adrian on Thursday and he put together his second strong start. Schneider was able to get through the first two innings without allowing a run, but had to navigate around a couple of walks in the first and another in the second. The Dragons scored a single run in the third inning off Schneider on a single, a stolen base, a groundout, and a pitch back to the screen. Schneider came out with an out in the 5th inning. The Rebels would use two relievers to get through the last 5 outs and the Dragons scored a run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

The Rebels did their most damage in the third inning. The Rebels would start and rally with one out. Gavin Gillette singled to third and Teague Meyer doubled, advancing Gillette to third. Aidan Dierks hit a ground ball to short and drove in Gillette, moving Meyer to 3rd. Dierks was safe on the play and would steal second base a couple of pitches later. Meyer would score on a wild pitch and Dierks scored on a Krew Schneider double. The Rebels took the lead 3-0. The Rebels would never trail and added an insurance run in the top of the 6th when Dylan Kluis scored from third base on a Rebel base running play. MCC would get the win 4-2.

Krew Schneider picked up the win Thursday night, pitching five and a third innings, striking out 7 while walking 8. Schneider allowed a pair of hits and a pair of runs, but only one was earned. Teague Meyer got the save in relief, picking up the final three outs of the game all by strikeout. The Rebels at the plate combined for 8 hits. led by Teague Meyer with 2, including a double. Krew Schneider also had a double for the Rebels. The Rebels have a busy week coming up with four games on the schedule, weather permitting.

MCC vs. RTR - Monday, April 15

The MCC Rebel Baseball team opened their week at home against the Russell Tyler Ruthton Knights, in a matchup of two teams that have been battling in the playoffs the last couple of seasons. The RTR Knights have ended the Rebels season each of the past two years. The Rebels can’t make up for playoff losses in just one regular-season game, but the Rebels would love to beat the Knights to end a long losing streak against RTR in all boys sports. The Rebels would pick up a nice Red Rock Conference victory on Monday.

The MCC Rebels and the RTR Knights would play a crazy game on Monday. Though neither team scored many runs, there was plenty of action. The Rebels sent Teague Meyer to the mound to start and the sophomore put together a solid game. The Knights put runners on base throughout the game, but they struggled to score runs. They would score a run in the third inning. After the Knights singled and drew a couple of walks, an error by the Rebels allowed the first Knights run of the game, but they would do no further damage. The Knights scored again in the top of the 7th inning off of Krew Schneider, who pitched in relief. Schneider hit a couple of batters in the top half of the 7th inning, and Sean Griesse tied the game, scoring on a passed ball with two outs in the team’s final at bat.

The Rebels would face Elijah Determan of the Knights. The Rebels got on the board first with a single by Dylan Kluis and a walk to Cayden Veldhuisen. After a fielder’s choice created the first out of the inning, the Rebels got a single by Teague Meyer. Thunder Hawk would be thrown out at the plate, but Veldhuisen scored the game’s first run. The Rebels went ahead in the fifth inning when Teague Meyer reached on an RTR error and stole second base. Aidan Dierks hit a double, scoring Meyer and putting the Rebels ahead. MCC would have to get the win in the 7th inning in walk-off fashion. Torin Thunderhawk walked to start off the inning and advancee to second base with one out ,on a single by Aidan Dierks.
