GREEN THUMB

By Arnold Krusemark

Our gardening continues. The produce is getting ready. And the corn is now tasseling out. We should be getting ears of corn to cook and eat soon. And other garden produce too.

Time to check Farmers Market too. Thursday mornings in Slayton. Back to our own gardens the hoeing needs doing. Thanks for the rain even if little. And the lawn needs mowing too, of course.

At least the planting is done. Now to wait while things grow until its time to start the harvesting. And harvesting in years past meant canning and freezing our produce to use then winter comes.

Canning supplies are still for sale. The canning process always heated up the house too - in the era before electricity and air conditioning.

My, what memories. In the meantime be sure to water your house plants too.

Until next week.
