GET THE DIRT

If your lawn goes dormant due to heat and lack of rain, you may choose to let it go brown. Leave it dormant until the rains begin. Do not fertilize or use herbicides on dormant lawns. Also, minimize foot traffic.

The term pH is a measure of how acidic or basic your soil is. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Anything less than 7 is considered acidic. Most plants like a pH of 6-7. You can adjust the pH by using amendments.

Look for areas to add a few more annuals. A few new annuals can freshen up the summer garden and cover up any losses.
