Lorenz Ray Canfield

Lorenz Ray Canfield.jpgLorenz Ray Canfield was born on August 5, 1938, in Adrian Township, Nobles County, Minnesota. He was the son of Howard and Martha (Stumpf) Canfield. Lorenz was baptized as an infant at American Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. He received his education in Upsala, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Upsala High School Class of 1956. He furthered his education taking a Claim Adjuster Class in Willmar, Minnesota, Boiler Maintenance Class in Jackson, Minnesota, and a Welding Class at Hutchinson Area Vocational Technical School.

On April 23, 1957, Lorenz entered active military service and served in the United States Army. He received the Sharp Shooter (Pistol) Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Lorenz was Honorably Discharged on April 17, 1959.

On October 24, 1959, Lorenz was united in marriage to Karen Piepgras.

On July 23, 1972, Lorenz was united in marriage to Marleen Vos at the American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage, the couple resided in Slayton, Minnesota. Lorenz was employed as a bartender. Lorenz and Marleen were blessed with nine children. Lorenz and Marleen shared 46 years of marriage.

Lorenz was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax, the Fairfax American Legion Post #205 and the Fairfax VFW Post #8459. He was an active member of the Fairfax Honor Guard.

Lorenz enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Lorenz passed away as a result of a car accident near Dassel, Minnesota, on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the age of 80 years. Blessed be his memory.

Lorenz is survived by his: Wife, Marleen Canfield of Fairfax, MN; Children, Shelby Berglund and her husband, Delvin of Iona, MN, Keith Canfield and his wife, Theresa of Park Rapids, MN, Curtis Canfield of Larchwood, IA, Eugene Canfield and his wife, Naomi of Great Falls, VA, Douglas Canfield and his wife, Vicki of Fulda, MN, Lisa Ackerman and her husband, Dean of Slayton, MN, and Tammy Canfield and her husband, Dan Oliphant of Madelia, MN; Grandchildren, Scott, Jeffery, Shaw, Nikkya, Chance, Kaysea, Stormy, Joshua, Emily, Jonathan, Rebecca, Jennifer, Nicholas, Brandon; Great Grandchildren, Kelly, Naomi, Kathleen, Krystnya, Alexander, Allen, Gracie, Paetton and one due on June 16, 2019; Siblings, Norman Canfield and his wife, Arlene of Ellsworth, WI, Anna Meagher of Grey Eagle, MN, Luetta Rohde of Bertrum, MN, Leonard Canfield, of NV, Elizabeth Vanlith of Plymouth, MN, Louise Walter and her husband, Roger of Little Falls, MN, Sylvia Hoffman and her husband, Eugene of St. Cloud, MN; Brother-In-Law, Lonnie Leebens of Slayton, MN, Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lorenz was preceded in death by his Parents, Howard and Martha Canfield; First Wife, Karen Canfield; Daughter, Tammy Lynn Canfield; Son, Mark Edward Canfield; Sisters, Gloria Clear, Deloras Graber and Marian Leebens; Brother, Delmar Canfield, Sister-In-Law, Deloris Canfield; Brothers-In-Law, James Meagher, Jim Clear, Giles Graber, Lambert “Turk” Vanlith, and Gerald “Bud” Rohde.

Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with interment in Memorial Gardens in Slayton, Minnesota, at a later date.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Monday, May 6, 2019, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
