Lois Joan Ferguson was born Dec. 9, 1934, to Clarence and Lillie (Johansen) Ackerman near Slayton, MN.  She was the 8th child of 10 children born to the family.  She attended country school and graduated from Slayton High School.  After high school she worked at Red Owl Grocery Store in Slayton. On January 16, 1955, Lois married Marvin Ferguson.  After their marriage they lived east of Slayton and several other places before settling on their farm near Lake Wilson, where they lived for 53 years.  Not only did Lois work on the farm driving machinery, doing chores, and milking cows; she also worked outside the home at places including Campbells in Worthington, MN, Country Host in Slayton and Huisken Meat Center in Chandler, MN. Lois enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking.  She was famous for her cookies, especially her “Golden Nut” cookies.   In their spare time Lois and Marvin enjoyed square dancing, polka dancing and roller skating.  The couple enjoyed taking short breaks from their seven-day work weeks to travel to Las Vegas with friends.  Lois enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society and trying her luck at local casinos where she “hit it lucky” this summer in Flandreau. They also enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years. On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Lois died peacefully at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy, MN. Lois is survived by her husband of 68 years, Marvin Ferguson, Lake Wilson; son, Jake (Laura) Ferguson, Prior Lake, MN;  Melvin (Judy) Ferguson, Montgomery, MN;  Duane Ferguson, Woodstock, MN;  grandchildren: Jason (Molly) Ferguson, Hastings, MN; Travis (Leyla) Ferguson, Washington, DC; Stacy (Andrew) Hoffman; Fargo, ND;  Scott (Kelsey) Somerville, Blomkest, MN; and four great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is one sister: Diane (Dwight) Smith, Hastings, MN; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ackerman and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, son: Timothy Ferguson; siblings: Marie Lillie (infant sister), Daniel Ackerman, Darline Schmidt, Betty (Harold) Bjornebo; Dora (Leon) Pommier; Robert (Leone) Ackerman; Mary (Bill) Mahon; David (Carol) Ackerman. A Gathering of friends and family was held on Monday, Nov. 20 from 4-7 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home in Chandler, MN; A private burial will be held later at the Round Lake Cemetery in Round Lake, MN.  Chandler Funeral Association is assisting the family.
