Dorothy Joyce Brown

Dorothy Joyce Brown, age 99, passed away at the Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Slayton, MN, on Feb 12, 2019. She had been a resident there since March 23, 2016.
Born February 8, 1920, in the Village of Donnelly, MN, she grew up in Donnelly, lived in Minneapolis, MN, Seattle, WA, Morris, MN and Fulda, MN before settling in Avoca, MN, making that her home since 1965.
After high school, she worked at a boarding house in Minneapolis and attended classes part time in the twin cities before moving to Seattle, WA to work at Boeing Aircraft Company. She was there from 1941 to 1943 as part of the Women Workers of World War II, (aka, Rosie the Riveter), in support of the war effort due to a shortage of men who were called to serve.
Dorothy was a life-time member of the Kovgsvinger Church of Donnelly. Her survivors include her children; daughter Sharon Duncan (Larry), of Avoca; son Gary Brown, Avoca; and Deborah Brown Schrantz (Thom), Slayton, MN.
Grandchildren: David Brown, Slayton, MN; Cory Brown (Karen), Slayton, MN; Dawn Veenhuis (David) Plainview, MN; Daniel Brown, Minot ND; Jenna Like (Zachary) Slayton MN, 10 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Brown; three grandsons; Michael Duncan, Robert Brown, Chad Brown, and two great grandchildren; Lindsey Duncan and little Bralyn.
Dorothy was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost, always thinking of them before herself.
A graveside service will be held at the Avoca Faith Lutheran Cemetery on May 25, 2019 at 3pm. Following, lunch will be served at the Avoca Hall.
