Junior high baseball teams from Murray County Central had successful spring seasons, offering promise that the school’s excellent tradition on the diamond will continue for years.

The MCC 7th-grade team won 15 of 18 games, losing twice to teams from Marshall and once to Windom. The Slayton squad competed in two tournaments, in Marshall and Pipestone, and finished runner-up in both.

The MCC 7th-grade team was led offensively by Carson Lewis, who batted .588 and had 22 RBIs — both tops on the team. He had five doubles, two triples and a home run.

Dugan Kluis batted .542 with a team-high 26 hits and 27 runs scored. He had five doubles, three triples and a homer. Also hitting especially well for the team were Krew Schneider

Also hitting especially well for the team were Krew Schneider (.540 average, nine doubles, two triples), Danny Larson (.341, 16 RBIs, four doubles), and Tristan Behrends (.372, 18 runs).

Jaxson Kline, Levi Kopperud, Weston Kruger Keagan Wiekeraad and Brayden Gilb also played well for the squad.

The 7th-grade team received excellent pitching from Kluis, Schneider, Lewis, Kline, Larson, Kopperud and Kline.

The MCC 8th-grade team also had a solid season, finishing with a record of 9-6-1. The Slayton club was 17-1 as 7th-graders and thus finished their junior high careers with a fine overall record of 26-7-1.

Top hitters for the MCC 8th-graders included Lucas Kuball (.550 average), Eli Gillette (.478), and Teague Meyer (.474).

Also playing well for the 8th-graders were Gabriel Tentinger, Carter Hanson, Max Miller, Cayden Veldhuisen, Wyatt Thompson, Gage Carlson, Luke Iverson, Tayden Beerman, Jaxon Wendorff and Thomas Pruitt.

The team’s pitching staff was led by Miller, Meyer, Tentinger, Veldhuisen, Gillette and Hanson.

The MCC junior high teams were managed by Scott Mansch, with the aid of assistant coaches Jeff Grieme and Austin Irlbeck.
