Slayton Police Plot Arrests to Support Murray County Kids
Local children from infant to age 5 need your help! Citizens throughout Murray County will be “arrested” on August 14th to support learning opportunities for the youngest members of our community in the annual Jail & Bail fundraiser.
Money donated to bail out the inmates is used by the Murray County Early Childhood Initiative for area programs benefiting children from birth to age 5. This includes FRED (Families Reading Every Day) events that provide educational activities and books for each child, Preschool Open Gym and Open Swim during the winter, children’s music concerts, the annual Family Fair, visits to area daycares by ECFE on Wheels, “Getting Ready for School” backpacks and supplies at preschool screenings, children’s books for waiting rooms in area businesses, and other outreach projects to encourage learning and school readiness in Murray County.
Do you have friends, family members, or coworkers who should be “arrested” by the SPD? To arrange the “bust,” you will need to make a $25 donation to the Early Childhood Initiative and contact Marie Paulzine at 507-360-2307 to organize the criminal details. ECI is also looking for groups or individuals willing to volunteer to serve time for Murray County’s kids.
The Jail & Bail fundraiser will take place on the east lawn of the Murray County Courthouse on the opening day of the fair (Wed., Aug. 14th) from 2-7 PM. Participating citizens will have the choice of turning themselves in or being picked up by the Slayton Police Department. Either way, they will end up in the mock-jail on the courthouse lawn where they will stand before a community judge to be charged with their “crime.” The inmates will then begin making phone-calls to raise their bail goal of $100. Bail can either be raised in the form of pledges or donations.
Murray County ECI greatly appreciates the many generous individuals who have volunteered or made donations through the years. Our county is a better place for children and families because our citizens and communities care!
By John Stenen
Some years ago a judge from Detroit was addressing a Young People’s Rally and said, “Eighty percent of the youngsters arraigned in my court came from homes where there had been no religious training.” This is verified time and time again by youth leaders and pastors throughout the nation. There is a terrible ignorance of the basic principles of Biblical morality among so many in our nation today.Even in many Churches the world’s morality is being embraced, and no wonder we have sexual immorality, the drugs, booze, gang violence, and the rise of ANTIFA and so forth.
Paul wrote to Timothy and said, “Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. (Sin, 2 Tim. 2:19).
Paul also wrote to young Timothy and said, “But you, O man of God, flee these things (love of money and worldly lusts), and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” (1 Tim.6:11).
Thank God for the many young people who love Jesus and serve Him, but is it any wonder that so many youngsters are going the way of the world when little or no time is given to learning God’s Word? Praise and worship of God are foreign to so many. They need to be in Church and Sunday School. If you care for your family, which I believe you do, - get your family into a good Church and grow in the Grace and Knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,…..(Ps. 33:12). Come back to Him today and serve Him all the days of your life. For all eternity you will rejoice that you did.
