American Legion Auxiliary Minnesota Girls State 2018 Announcement

High School Junior Girls of Murray County are invited to consider attending American Legion Auxiliary’s Minnesota Girls State 72nd Annual Session this summer, June 10th-16, 2018 at at Bethel University, Arden Hills, MN.

The Girls State attendees study the Minnesota city, county, and state governmental processes. Citizens are divided into two political parties gaining knowledge of the operations of a 2 party system. They formulate their cities electing the officials then proceeding on to the county development finalizing with the state government.

Elections are held to fill the city, county and state governmental positions. Activities include political party campaigning, caucusing, debating, and voting. Parliamentary procedures are also used in the processes.

All Scholarship packets must be completed and returned by Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in order to meet the deadline set by the Department of Minnesota.


FFA Members compete in Youth Livestock Judging

On Saturday January 27, 2018, eight FFA members competed at the Sioux Empire 4-H/FFA Youth Livestock Judging Contest.  There were two teams, the Murray County 4-H team, which consisted of four 8th graders, Ryan Risacher, Taylor Ford, Camdyn Kluis, and Sophie Larson.  The Murray County FFA team, which consisted of four 7th graders, Derek Kluis, Jessica Miller, Madilyn Clarke, and Jackie Vos.  They judged eight different classes.  Two classes being Market Steers, one class of Simmental Breeding heifers, one class of breeding does, one class of market goats, one class of market lambs, and two classes of swine. 

The top two individuals from the Murray County 4-H team was Ryan Risacher, he scored a 328, and got 51st place, Sophie Larson scored a 323, and got 63rd place. The top two individuals for the Murray County FFA team was Madilyn Clarke who scored a 263 and got 193rd place, Derek Kluis scored a 258 and got 201st place. Overall the Murray County 4-H team scored a total of 1236 points and finished in 22nd place. The Murray County FFA team scored a total of 979 points and finished in 51st place.

University of Mary in Bismarck Announces Fall Dean’s List 

Area residents are among 889 students named to the fall semester Dean’s List at the University of Mary, in Bismarck. This number includes students in Mary’s undergraduate program and in adult education (Worldwide).

To qualify for the honor, traditional undergraduate students must earn a 3.50 or better grade point average while carrying at least 12 credit hours.

Students enrolled in University of Mary’s Worldwide program must earn a 3.50 or better grade point average while at a full-time adult learner status.
